STARDUST was sprinkled over a magicians festival this year as one of TV’s most famous illusionists graced the Winter Gardens.

Derren Brown was in attendance at the Blackpool Magicians Conventions 2013 to peruse the wealth of magic on display.

The record breaking event kicked off with the opening of the Dealers’ Super Showcase in the Empress Ballroom and the Arena which saw traders selling magic tricks of all shapes and sizes to amateurs and professionals who turned up to check out their wares.

For those who preferred a little more of the personal touch there were escapologists and puppets.

The magical atmosphere inside the iconic venue welcomed names from across the globe including Alan Horne, from Axtell Puppets in California, and one of Hungary’s leading magician’s George Kavari, the escapologist.

Organiser, Derek Lever, chairman of Blackpool’s Magician’s Club, said Friday’s events had seen 3,200 people through the doors.

He said: “It’s been a brilliant convention so far with record breaking numbers.

“Everybody was buying from the stalls and all of the traders were running out of everything.

“We have 115 stalls selling magic items from all over the world and Derren has been here to see if he can get anything to use in his latest show.

“It’s great to have him here because it gives a boost to the convention and everyone can go away having seen a TV star.”
