Joey Blower - Merrie England

After months of weekly heats, budding singing stars of the future will find out if they are to be crowned Joey Blower’s Pubstars champion 2012 this weekend.

Joey Blower’s Pubstars is an annual singing competition held in the North Pier’s legendary Merrie England Bar. Members of the public are invited every weekend to take to the stage and perform their favourite songs and are judged by the audience on whether they make it through to the Grand Finals Weekend held at the end of the summer season.

This weekend there will be over 40 hopefuls singing for a panel of judges from the world of entertainment and leisure. The winner of Pubstars 2012 will win £1000 with the second place winning £300 and third place £200.

Previous Pubstars winners who have gone on to perform throughout the UK and Europe include Dave Saxon, David Boucher, Theresa Gray, Tony Lewis and Leanne Fury.

Joey Blower said: “We are excited with our Finals Weekend judges – the greatest Robbie Williams tribute and former winner Tony Lewis, Miss Poulton Jade Slusarczyk, G Casino marketing and sales executive Jo Hindle and the pride of Blackpool who is taking a day out of his schedule as a favour to me, Brian “The Lion” Rose who defends his British light middleweight championship in Blackpool on December 14.”

Brian Rose added: “There are not many things I would sacrifice training for but as soon as Joey asked me I said yes. As a good friend I will do all I can to help him and his team out; but I’ve also heard what a great afternoon it is at the final and having been this year to see his show for the first time, I’m hooked on the place.

“It’s one of Blackpool’s must-visit places. I just wish I could join in and have a drink but I’m saving that for my after-fight party on December 14.”

Join us at the Merrie England this weekend and enjoy some great entertainment and cheer on our Pubstars 2012 finalists. The finals heats on Saturday take place from 2 and 7pm, and on Sunday from 2pm.
