Two young entrepreneurs from Hest Bank in Lancaster have taken the plunge and given up their careers in car sales and the hospitality business to open a Thai restaurant in Lytham.

Despite the current economic climate, 29 year old Adam Kay and 23 year old Nicky Sri-lem along with Nicky’s mum Saranya (after who the restaurant is named) hope to use their passion for good oriental food to turn Saranya on Pleasant Street into a success, serving the very best in Thai food with high customer service.

The couple had been looking to get into the restaurant industry for some time but were waiting for the right business in the right place.

Nicky was born in Bangkok and her mother, who is the head chef, is Thai.

Together they have been instrumental in putting together a menu showcasing the best Thai cuisine, which they felt was just what Lytham’s dining scene would benefit from.

Combined with Adam’s sales and customer service orientated background it already seems to be proving to be a recipe for success.

However the move hasn’t come without its challenges. “A lot of the building wasn’t being utilised,” says Adam. “We’ve spent a lot of time and effort making sure all three floors are welcoming yet modern.

“The top floor is now a fully licensed fully functioning bar/function room and we aim to use it for parties, functions and also hope to have live entertainment available once we are established in the locality and people know we are here.”

Adam and Nicky are already thinking ahead to the future. “We want to expand the scope of our upstairs wine bar, look at opening through the day and perhaps offer a take out lunch service to local businesses,” he said.

The couple are currently commuting on a daily basis to the restaurant but hope in the near future to relocate to Lytham and are looking forward to becoming part of the Lytham community.
