The Fylde Coast Shakespeare Festival finished with a flourish when more than 100 people enjoyed a feast in the Baronial Hall at the Winter Gardens.

Many got into the spirit of the occasion by donning Elizabethan dress for the night.

Elaine Smith, of the Winter Gardens Trust, said: “It was a spectacular occasion and a fitting finale to the festival.

“The menu included dishes such as broth, roast swine and lavender rice pudding made according to Elizabethan recipes, and we had to eat with a knife and a spoon just as they would have done.”

The festival, the brainchild of Coun David Owen, saw the Bard’s plays in condensed form at venues including Blackpool Town Hall and Tower Circus as part of celebrations to mark the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth.
