AMERICAN rock band The Killers are in Blackpool today to shoot a video for their new single.

The Las Vegas chart toppers are in the resort with legendary Batman and Planet of the Apes director Tim Burton and Hollywood star Winona Ryder.

The band have been filming inside Blackpool’s legendary Tower Ballroom.Excited fans took to social networks late last night after the band - fronted by Brandon Flowers - were spotted at Blackpool’s Odeon cinema where they watched the new James Bond film Skyfall.

Flowers took time out to pose for pictures with staff and customers.

Samantha Sinclair, manager at the cinema, said: “It was really exciting.

“They were happy to have photos taken with locals. It was their bassist, Mark who took our photo for us.

“They were really nice, not very chatty but I know they had to cancel their gig on Tuesday because Brandon lost his voice.”

Lauren Preston tweeted: “At 7 in the morning, it hasn’t quite sunk in yet that The Killers were watching Skyfall at Blackpool Odeon last night. Why was I not there?!”

Joe Rooney posted: “Tim Burton and Winona Ryder teaming up again... more Edward Scissorhands? No, a Killers video set in Blackpool. Still pretty cool.”

Sherry Speakman tweeted: “The Killers and Tim Burton in Blackpool tower today... Wouldn’t mind being there!”

The band, who last appeared in Blackpool at a special Radio One gig at the Empress Ballroom in 2006, cancelled a gig in Manchester on Tuesday after performing four songs.

A clearly under the weather Flowers told the crowd that his voice had “gone”, before walking offstage.

“I’m sorry I’ve never had to do this before but we’ve gotta stop. I can’t sing. I don’t know what else to tell you. I’m sorry. I know it’s frustrating for you and I’m sorry. I promise that we will come back,” Flowers told the crowd.

The Killers were formed in 2001, by Flowers (lead vocals, keyboards) and Dave Keuning (guitar, backing vocals). Mark Stoermer (bass, backing vocals) and Ronnie Vannucci Jr. (drums, percussion).

To date, the band has sold six million albums in the USA, five million albums in UK, and a total of 15 million worldwide.

Recently asked in an interview: “You live in Vegas. It seems quite brash: all sex and gambling. A bit like Blackpool,” Flowers responded: “I’ve been to Blackpool. It’s not like Blackpool.”
