Swan Lake role for blossoming ballerina

Kelsey Horridge will perform on stage at Swan Lake in Preston

Kelsey Horridge will perform on stage at Swan Lake in Preston

A BALLERINA is blossoming from a young duckling to an elegant swan in her latest performance.

Kelsey Horridge is busy with dance rehearsals after landing a role in a production of Swan Lake with the English Youth Ballet.

The 14-year-old’s part is a dream come true for the Lytham St Annes Technology College pupil, after beating hundreds of others for a place in the 100-strong cast.

She said: “I am so thrilled to be chosen. To work alongside professional international principal artists and to be coached by members of one of the largest companies in the UK is amazing.”

She will be adding the show to an already strong repertoire after performing in pantomimes and musicals from a young age.

The teenager has been dancing for ten years now and is already working towards her Grade Seven in ballet, as well as training as a gymnast too, having represented the North West in the British School Gymnastics Finals back in 2009.

And she’s also found time to get a Distinction in her singing and learn to play the saxophone - her proud teachers say she is a true “all-rounder”.

Kelsey will be performing on stage at Preston Charter Theatre on April 5 and 6, and the timing of the shows make them extra special for her family.

She added: “I will be doing one performance on April 5 which is my Nana’s 80th birthday - that was one of the reasons I auditioned. She will love it.”
