As the sun shone down yesterday, the stage was being set for the biggest night in Blackpool’s calendar.
Switch-On 2014 takes place tomorrow night, with record-breaking funny man Peter Kay set to ‘put the big light on’ as he headlines an action-packed night of top pop.
Preparations are well underway for the weekend’s celebrations, which also include highlights from top West End musicals and a 90s nostalgia trip, as well as a food festival - all on the Festival Headland at Central Promenade.
Following the success of Tuesday night’s Ride The Lights, the serious countdown to the brightest night of the year was taking place.
Coun Graham Cain, Blackpool Council’s cabinet member for tourism and leisure, said: “Work on setting up the Switch-On arena is now under way and on track.
“As with any event of this nature, we’re working hard to tackle all the logistical demands of various parties and we’re certain everything will be in place on the big night.”
The fun will begin at 4.30pm tomorrow, with gates open at 4pm, with 15 acts due to take to the stage before the main acts begin at 7pm - when Rock FM’s Jamie and Hywel will present George Ezra, Neon Jungle, Pixie Lott, Union J, Texas and music headliners Little Mix before Kay takes to the stage.
The party continues on Saturday, when the magic of the musicals will cast its spell on the Prom, featuring the casts of, among others, Jersey Boys, Chicago and Thriller Live! Closing the weekend on Sunday is X Factor star Rebecca Ferguson with Big Reunion 90s’ pop.
