A line up of reality TV stars is set to get Christmas off to a cracking start in Blackpool.
Performers from hit shows the X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent will be on stage in St John’s Square for the resort’s Christmas lights switch-on on Saturday November 30.
Artists confirmed so far include Kevin Simm of Liberty X fame, Kitty, Giles Potter and Scott Bruton who have all had their brush with fame in the X Factor, plus The Mend, Mr Zip, Stephen Hall and Olivia Archibald from Britain’s Got Talent.
There will also be entertainment from local act REDD and Boomin!, with more stars still to be announced by bosses at radio station Rock FM, whose presenters will front the event.
The fun kicks off at noon when youngsters can meet Father Christmas and Rudolph, with entertainment starting at 2pm and the switch on itself taking place at 4.45pm.
Blackpool BID (Business Improvement District) manager Eileen Ormand said: “We have an unmissable show this year with an excellent line up of everyone’s favourite reality TV stars.”
Coun Graham Cain, cabinet member for leisure and tourism on Blackpool Council, said: “The Christmas lights Switch-On will, I am sure, be a very exciting event which will help bring people into Blackpool and start off the winter shopping period in the right way.
“We have a fantastic Christmas shopping offer in Blackpool and there really is something for all the family.
“I am looking forward to it and I am sure many others will be too.”
Shop local in run up to Christmas
Retail chiefs hope people will choose Blackpool as their main destination for Christmas shopping this year.
The Christmas lights switch on traditionally kicks off the vital shopping weeks in the run up to the festive season.
Eileen Ormand, Blackpool town centre manager and BID manager, urged people to join in the celebrations and spend their money in their local stores.
She said: “Why not come into town early and get your Christmas shopping off to an early start?
“We want to encourage people to keep it local and shop in Blackpool town centre this Christmas season.”
This year’ s switch on has been designed for families, which is why organisers have chosen a reality TV theme for the performers.
But Santa and his trusty reindeer Rudolph will also be there.
More acts will be announced and fans who want to get close to their favourite entertainers are being urged to get along early.
