Pop idol added to Proms show

Jason Donovan, the latest name added to this year's Lytham Proms' 80's night.

A SOAP star catapulted to fame as an 80s heart-throb is the latest name set for Lytham Green.

Jason Donovan – who became a household name as Scott Robinson in Neighbours – has been added to this year’s Lytham Proms ‘80s Strikes Back’ show after Jimmy Somerville was forced to pull out.

Donovan, who last appeared in Blackpool as a finalist on the 2011 series of Strictly Come Dancing, will join a host of other retro stars for the Friday night show.

Peter Taylor, from organisers Cuffe and Taylor, said: “We were really upset to hear that Jimmy Somerville could no longer perform, especially after he announced his appearance to all his fans.

“However, the event is not just about one artist, it’s about a full night of entertainment.

“We were thrilled that Jason was able to agree, and I think that Jason will really add to the already stellar line-up’

Also on the bill for the show, on Friday, August 2, is Tony Hadley, Marc Almond, Heaven 17, Odyssey, Altered Images and Sonia.

Russell Watson will headline Saturday’s traditional opera concert, with the big name star for Sunday night’s event still to be announced.

Special early bird tickets for the 80’s show are now on sale, priced at £29.50, plus booking fee, if booked before December 31, and VIP packages priced at £99 plus booking fee.
