Music Review: The Stylistics - North Pier, Blackpool

The Stylistics

The Stylistics

THEY flew from a super storm on America’s east coast to a downpour on Blackpool’s seafront, but there was no raining on their parade when The Stylistics made their North Pier debut.

Despite the biting cold, things really hotted up when the party got started and this fab foursome showed why, 44 years since the group began, they can still get the audience up and dancing with hit after hit, a fine line in patter and all the right moves even after all those years.

You Make Me Feel Brand New, Sing Baby Sing, Betcha By Golly Wow and the fabulous Rock ‘n’ Roll Baby tempted scores into the aisles and despite two thirds of the auditorium being full, it seemed a shame that wet weather had probably served to keep the last-minute deciders away from what was the opening night of their latest 21-date UK tour.

It was their loss. This was a feelgood show that left the audience wanting more after being reminded time after time just how many hits there really were.

They might not be the full original line-up but, as the falsetto soared through Can’t Give You Anything, you’d have been hard pressed to tell the difference.
