Two young street dancers from Blackpool are on the road to Germany after their troupe qualified for the European championships at their first attempt.
Anya Trachillis, 12, from Poulton, who is a pupil at Hodgson Academy, and Karis Lomax, 11, from Bispham, who attends Moor Park Primary School, qualified after their crew GirlCode won a silver medal in the under-14s intermediate category of the United Dance Organisation (UDO) championships held at the Winter Gardens.
Anya and Karis travel to Telford every weekend to train with the rest of their crew.
Anya said: “It’s a dream come true to be going to the Europeans and I can’t believe we qualified on our first time.
“I am so proud of my crew GirlCode and can’t thank our trainer Dee enough for all her hard work and effort.
“Karis and I travel to Telford every weekend to train and have been doing so since only September last year and we practice in the week together.
“The minute I come in from school, it’s bags down and straight to my room, music on and that’s me for the next hour.” The group is now fundraising for the trip. Their choreographer Dee Spencer said: “Steve Lawton from Clifton Buying Group in Blackpool has kindly sponsored the girls and started off their fund raising.
“The girls can also perform at events for a small donation. I am also coming to Blackpool to host workshops and the money raised will go towards getting us to Germany.”
If anyone would like to help GirlCode they can contact Dee on 07751 611218 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The competition takes place on the weekend of May 9 to 11 in Kalkar.
