A new venture to find the resort’s next generation of star talent has been launched after a music academy and radio station joined forces.

Fylde Coast Radio has signed up to produce shows at the Blackpool Music Academy, in Waterloo Road, South Shore.

The partnership will give the radio station a purpose-built studio after months of broadcasting from station manager Roy Heald’s home in Stanley Park.

He said the new venture, working with music academy founder John Shaw, will allow local bands to perform, as well as giving radio presenters a start in the business.

Roy, 56, said: “We were running the station from my house. We had looked at the academy and felt it was the ideal location.

“Much of the time when looking at somewhere to move to it is about getting funding, which can be an issue.

“But when the academy offered a rentable room we felt it was a good idea to join the music and radio side of things together.

“It is a marriage made in heaven.”

Academy founder John Shaw said the new tenants would feature live feeds from musicians at the centre.

The 67-year-old added: “Roy was passing and he saw we were a music school renting rooms – he called in and we welcomed him with open arms.

“It is quite daunting going on the radio and we hope this agreement will allow young musicians to experience it.”
