IT is a Christmas gift which will light up someone’s face – literally.

For residents are being urged to buy a festive present with a difference - the chance to appear in next year’s Blackpool Illuminations.

Friends, family or even pets can have their image displayed in the Headlights 2013 feature at the cliffs in Bispham.

Coun Graham Cain, cabinet member for tourism and culture on Blackpool Council, told The Gazette: “People can surprise a family member or friend this Christmas with a gift with a difference. See their face light up as they feature on the 101st Illuminations display, seen by more than three million visitors each year.

“It is a chance to feature in the world famous Illuminations and become a part of Blackpool history.”

Shirley Hunt, of the Friends of the Illuminations, said it was a fantastic idea.

She added: “My three granddaughters features in this year’s Centenary Heads display, and they were amazed to see themselves as part of the Illuminations.

“We all went down to have a look and it was great to spot the different faces, and look out for people you knew.

“It’s a really good idea, and will help bring some revenue into the Illuminations as well which is very important.

“And when they take it down, you can keep the actual print as a souvenir.”

The friends group has been working with the council to boost revenue for the lights.

A limited number of spaces are available for £49.99, which is half the cost of this year’s images, while for people who purchased a Centenary Head in the 2012 display there is a special two for one offer.

Purchasers are provided with a certificate to present on Christmas Day, and if they want to keep the image after the display they must pay an additional £9.99.
