The top of Blackpool Tower is set to sit alongside the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Statue of Liberty as part of Blackpool’s newest attraction.

Work will begin this week on lifting a replica of the top of the Tower into the Wonders of the World Zone at Blackpool’s new multi-million pound Illuminasia attraction.

Billed as the indoor Illuminations, the attraction will open its doors at the Olympia at the Winter Gardens next month.

The Tower weighs two tonnes and will be lit by over 1km of LED rope.

The steel structure has taken six Chinese Artisans 12 days to create.

And several key pieces are still being created as April 18 opening day approaches.

Once it is open, the dazzling exhibition is expected to bring in 300,000 visitors in its first year.

Illuminasia is the biggest event of its kind anywhere in the world.

It aims to bring together Blackpool’s long history of illuminations with traditional Chinese lanterns.

The 40ft Blackpool Tower will be at its centre and the exhibition will feature six zones made up of everything from the wonders of space to a giant ant.

Designer Max Painter said: “What we are producing is a complete first in the UK, probably in Europe. It is the biggest indoor illuminations there have ever been in the world.

“The venue here is incredible.”
