Showzam - Blackpools annual festival of circus, magic and new variety

Magical fun, amazing circus acts, unrivalled variety shows and unique exhibitions, Showzam 2012 will leave you spoilt for choice!

Showzam is a nine day festival that runs every year in Blackpool during February, coinciding -with the school half term holidays.

This extraordinary and unique festival includes a number of high profile performers, street artists and never before seen acts, showcased throughout Blackpool’s famous landmarks and on the streets.

With a mix of ticketed and free events, family friendly and adult only shows, there’s something for everyone, with everyone encouraged to engage and interact with the performances as well as enjoy the workshops and talks by established industry experts.

The 2012 programme is listed below so feast your eyes on all the events that are coming to Blackpool.

Granny does know best - Tonight’s Grand Theatre star Ida Barr is nothing like your average granny!

Grand’s little big top - The Big Top shrinks into Circus Shorts for two nights at Blackpool Grand Theatre.

The show begins! - Nothing was quite as it seemed as the annual Showzam! Carnival Ball sprinkled some saucy magic over Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

Stars of wonder - There’s magic in the air when Chester’s leading professional community theatre company stages its new production in the Grand Theatre’s Lawrence House Studio as part of the Showzam! festival.

Getting better with age - Ida Barr’s Variety Parade - Grand Theatre, Blackpool. Imagine Hinge without Bracket (or the other way round) finding a cache of prescription drugs next to their care worker’s CD collection and you are part way to where “the peoples’ pensioner” Ida Barr is coming from.

A new twist on big top - Circus Shorts, Grand Theatre, Blackpool. Given the Collins English Dictionary definition of circus as “(performance given by) a travelling company of acrobats, clowns, performing animals etc” then any questions about the credentials of Circus Shorts can be put to one side.

Fun amid hopelessness of an Orwellian world

- The Animals and the Children Took To The Streets, Grand Theatre Blackpool.

Worth wait when the magic starts - Star Of Wonder, Lawrence House Studio. A little theatre company proved size doesn’t matter at the Lawrence House Studio on Valentine’s Day.

This father and son show always proves a winner - Circus Hilarious, Opera House. Following in your father’s footsteps is never easy – except if you’re a clown.

Click here to read the story - Magic Monday, Merrie England, North Pier. How on earth did he do that?

Circus stars on fire - Blackpool Tower Circus acts are on fire for the Showzam festival… literally!
