A new family pub could be opening its doors in Thornton.
Hot on the heels of launching its first pub on the Fylde coast, UK pub chain Hungry Horse has announced plans for a second.
The Cherry Tree opened in Blackpool earlier this month and now the family-friendly chain has designs on a vacant site in Thornton.
Hungry Horse says its plans will create 40 jobs in the resort.
A spokeswoman for the company, which is owned by brewer Greene King, said: “Following a public consultation and a very positive response from the local community, we have applied to build a new Hungry Horse in Thornton.
“Our modern, family-friendly Hungry Horse pub and restaurant will create more than 40 full and part-time jobs in the local area.”
The company plans to build the new premises on an unused greenfield site around 1.5 miles from the town centre, saying there are no suitable existing sites available, and aims to have it open with a year.
The Hungry Horse spokeswoman added: “We hope to have the pub ready to welcome in customers by late spring 2014.”
Plans for a new pub and restaurant, in Fleetwood Road North, have been submitted to Wyre Borough Council.
The development will include a children’s play area and 80 parking spaces.
The application also includes an agreement to provide the money to build two new bus stops on Fleetwood Road North, close to the site of the proposed pub.
Previous efforts to turn the land into a nursing home, with permission granted in 2008, came to nothing.
Although the area around the site is currently undeveloped, the application notes that permission has already been granted for a Sainsbury’s nearby and development is set to get underway in the near future.
