VIDEO: Scream of a launch for Gianna’s book

Waiting for Video...

It is a truly screaming read – especially if you are strapped into the classic Big Dipper roller coaster at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

And that is exactly how Fylde coast author Gianna Hartwright decided to launch her new children’s book The Belfana Drama 2: Capriccia’s Conundrum.

It is believed to be the first time a book has been launched on a roller coaster.

Blackpool-born Gianna said: “It was a bit wet and windy when I went on the Big Dipper.

“I was on with a group of Brownies from the Wirral – some of them had already ready the book which was nice. Apart from the weather it was a great day.

“I just wanted to have a big kick start to the UK leg of the launch after I took it to a fair in Bologna.

“I got of lot of interest there from publishers. They are very keen in Italy and also in Germany, which is great.”

She first unveiled the book at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in Italy.

The magical fantasy story is based around the opening of a new theme park, Befland, named after the lead character, Bef.

Gianna chose the Big Dipper for the book’s UK launch because it was the inspiration behind one of the roller coasters in the book, the Big Slipper.

She braved the rain to take a spin on the popular ride before signing copies of the book.

The former Claremont Primary School and Fleetwood Grammar School pupil said her memories of the Pleasure Beach had a major impact on the book.

She added: “It was great to be able to launch Befana Drama 2 at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, which acted as an inspiration for me when I was devising Befland.

“In book two she opens her own theme park and based quite a few of the rides there on Pleasure Beach rides.”

Other fictional rides included in the story and inspired by past and present attractions at the theme park are the Coaler Coaster, the Mint Ball Octopus, the Acorn Teacups and the Bonbon Bumper Cars.
