CHRIS Brandon could get a Wembley recall as Simon Grayson mulls over the best way of swatting aside Yeovil and making it to the Championship.
The on-loan winger is available after a three-match suspension and although he's unlikely to make the starting 11, he is set to earn a place on the substitutes' bench.
Manager Simon Grayson says he won't name his side until an hour before kick-off b
ut he does admit that telling certain players they haven't made the 16 will be the hardest thing he's had to do in football.
"Telling a player they are not involved is never nice. But it's made even worse this weekend because of the occasion – it's a major final," said the boss.
"However, it comes with the territory. It's the same when you're releasing young lads. It's not easy, it's not pleasant but you have to do it.
"I've had to toughen up since I became a manager. I've still got a soft side I suppose but you have to be hard and decisive.
"Given half an opportunity, people will try and test you and I have had to make a lot of tough decisions, starting last year when I had to release lads like Jason Wilcox and Rob Edwards.
"No matter if they are friends, as a manager of a football club you are there to do your best for the club.
"Even if it's a harsh decision, if it's in the best interests of the club it has to be done."
Players like David Fox and Scott Vernon, who have made massive contributions this season, will be on the bench at Wembley but Grayson insists he will have word with all the lads left out in a bid to keep their spirits up.
Grayson watched on two years ago when Steve McMahon axed Keith Southern without explanation from the side which played in the LDV Final at Wembley.
Southern was devastated and that's why Grayson intends to do things differently.
"I will be having a quiet word with whoever doesn't make it because I think it is the right way to do it," he added.
"One or two players in the squad will probably realise that they won't be playing because the team won't change too much from the side that has been on this nine-game run.
"But we'll have a quick chat and I'm sure that those not involved will be encouraging the others on because that's what it's been like all season – a big team effort."
As for Brandon, who was sent off in the final home League game against Scunthorpe and has lost his place to Adrian Forbes, Grayson added: "Chris is another player who comes back into the squad and he has done well here.
"The team has done really well while he's not been in. It was his own fault that he got sent off ... but he does give us something different."
Midfielder Southern has shrugged off his foot injury and is training as normal.
Finally, reports today have linked Pool with Bournemouth striker James Hayter and have named Wes Hoolahan as a possible Wolves target.
