North Shore's academy gets go-ahead
BLACKPOOL North Shore Golf Club is set for one of the most important developments in its 100-year-plus history.
Town planners have given the go-ahead for a teaching academy run by club professional Andrew Richardson.
The new set-up should be up and running by the summer.
Richardson currently runs a video-studio in St Annes town centre, but he is moving the operation to the academy at the Devonshire Road club.
Richardson employs the latest technology to give lessons with a difference – pupils can see where they are going wrong by looking at themselves replayed on a screen and do something to rectify the problem.
Benefits
North Shore secretary John Morris said that cost of building the new academy was in the region of £40,000, with ancillary concreting costing a further £10,000.
He added: "It will be entirely self-financing, with no cost to the members in the long-term, and Andrew will be paying rent to the club.
"There will be several benefits to the club members, not least the fact that they won't have to travel all the way to St Annes to use Andrew's studio anymore.
"And, of course, the techniques that Andrew uses will improve a player's game – in the long term we hope to get new members as a result of the academy."
