Jorg and Morrell in talks on new deals
TALKS aimed at keeping Claus Jorgensen and Andy Morrell will step up a pace in the next 48 hours.
After a couple of days break, Simon Grayson was back at his desk at Bloomfield Road to begin his summer business in earnest.
He has two aims: to buy new players and to find out if Jorgensen and Morrell want to stay.
Both players, as well as their agents, will meet the manager for further discussions and the club are hopeful that there will be an outcome one way or the other by the middle of the week.
Jorgensen has been offered a fresh contract, believed to be two years. He is mulling over the terms.
Squad
Morrell's position is slightly different in that he hasn't officially been offered a deal yet. Grayson has simply had an informal chat with the frontman, probably seeing how Morrell will feel about staying but in a reduced role.
The striker infamously hates being substituted or not playing and if he stays at Blackpool next season, the chances are that he will be viewed as a squad player.
Grayson needs to find out how Morrell feels about that – and the 33-year-old must also decide what's right for himself.
Simon Wiles has also been offered a contract, mainly to prevent rival clubs – most notably Macclesfield – picking up the winger on a free.
"We'll speak again with the lads involved in the next few days.
"Hopefully we'll have the situation resolved soon," said Grayson.
The manager met with coaches Steve Thompson and Tony Parkes at Bloomfield Road today to discuss possible signings.
The trio already have a long list of targets and will now begin the arduous but necessary tasks of making phonecalls to other managers and seeing who is – and isn't – available.
Aberdeen's Lee Miller remains a distinct possibility with the striker understood to be ready to move to England.
He is out of contract at the Scottish Premier League club. The Dons have offered him a fresh deal but the 12-goal frontman is said to be reluctant about signing and prepared to go elsewhere.
Pool had a bid turned down for Miller in the January transfer window and are likely to go back in if the 24-year-old becomes available on a free.
"We are going to be linked with a lot of players between now and the end of the summer," added Grayson.
"I don't mind that because it's the industry we are in but until anything concrete happens then it is all just speculation."
