Dickov snub could open door to Morrell

THE Seasiders' long-running pursuit of Paul Dickov will officially end in failure today when the Scot joins Leicester City.
One of the summer's most protracted transfer sagas will finally be resolved when the 35-year-old's move to the Walkers Stadium is announced at a press conference.

Dickov has decided to snub Pool's offer of Championship football and the chance to p
lay Major League Soccer with Toronto to sign what is understood to be a lucrative two-year deal with the League One club.

Foxes chairman Milan Mandaric said yesterday: "He would be a good addition to the club, with his experience, character and past here.

"There is a very positive dialogue. I guess we need another day before we can be more positive."

Talks have been ongoing for the last two days, but The Gazette understands the former Manchester City striker has now decided to opt for a second spell at Leicester.

That could be good for Andy Morrell, who would now appear to have a better chance of agreeing a deal with Pool.

He has been training with the club throughout the pre-season and is hoping to agree terms on a new contract.

The 33-year-old wasn't happy with the club's first offer but is hoping to reach a compromise with chairman Karl Oyston.

Morrell has declined to play in any pre-season games because of the risk of picking up an injury, which would wreck the chances of a move elsewhere.

Grayson and Oyston are likely to decide in the next few days what to do with Morrell.

They must also make decisions on trialists John Halls and Steven Pressley.

Right-back Halls has played in the majority of Pool's pre-season fixtures and is close to earning a deal.

Pressley, who has featured in the last two outings, probably still has work to do to convince the club he deserves a longer-term contract.

Reports from Pool supporters who have seen Halls play suggest he would be a decent addition to the squad so why is the club being so dilatory in signing him on. Is the war chest finally running out of funds?

I guess its a case of do we need Halls at the minute, having seen him play I think he's better than Barker, but I think Larry will show loyalty to Reggie.

Get Morrell signed up and let him lose, I've got a sneaky feeling he'll come up with the goods this season.
