SIMON Grayson has admitted he needs to sign strikers after missing out on Aberdeen's Lee Miller.
After the Dons man signed a two-year contract to remain with the Scottish Premier League club, Grayson confirmed for the first time that he had indeed been on the trail the 24-year-old.
Miller rejects Blackpool move"He is a player we wanted before the January window and afterwards as well, and we think he is a decent player," said the Seasiders boss.
"The lad himself had to decide whether he wanted to leave the club or sign a new contract and he's decided to stay.
"It's not a problem. It means we move on to other names on our list and turn our attentions elsewhere.
"But it's true that, yes, we do need strikers. With Keigan Parker leaving, Grant Holt going back to Nottingham Forest and Andy Morrell's situation still up in the air a little bit, I know it is an area we need to strengthen.
Work"But we know what we are doing and we have done a lot of work over the last couple of months to try and secure the people we want.
"There will be knockbacks along the way because nothing in football is simple.
"There is a lot of hard work to do to get a deal of done and there's a world of difference between talking to players and actually getting them to sign on the dotted line.
"But we'll keep working hard and it is very early days. There is a long way to go until the start of the season and the fans will have to be patient because we aren't going to bring four or five players in overnight."
Grayson plans to talk to one frontman – Andy Morrell – in the next 48 hours.
An informal discussion has already taken place, with Grayson offering the 33-year-old a deal for next season on the condition that Morrell realises he's unlikely to be a regular. It's up to the player to decide whether he's happy with that situation.
Claus Jorgensen has been offered a new two-year deal but talks have been put on hold because the Dane is on holiday with his family this week.
Jorgensen and his agent will meet Grayson early next week to continue discussions.
Paul Dickov will speak to Grayson about his plans in the next week. A free agent after his contract at Manchester City ran out, Dickov is a man in demand and has been offered several deals by various clubs, many abroad.
The 35-year-old is mulling over his options and has promised to give Grayson an answer as soon as possible.
The Seasiders boss is right when he says he needs frontmen though.
Stephen McPhee and Ben Burgess are the only two strikers on the club's books, though teenage starlet Danny Mitchley is now part of the first team squad after signing a two-year professional contract last month.
