ARCH-RIVALS Preston North End have made no attempt to hijack Blackpool's bid to sign Charlie Adam ... yet.
As the Seasiders were left waiting to discuss personal terms with the Rangers midfielder, fans have grown anxious that their loan hero could be tempted by a rival club who match Pool's £500,000 bid.

Preston manager Alan Irvine is a known admirer of his fellow Scot but the player's agent Kenny Moyes said: "We have nothing with Preston at the moment.

"Charlie met with (Rangers boss) Walter Smith on Wednesday afternoon and we are going to make a decision which is best for his future."

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway hopes to hold talks with the 23-year-old today.

Adam wants to remain in Scotland and add to his 89 appearances for the champions, but the Ibrox club need to trim their wage bill and accepted Pool's improved offer on Monday.

As for the Seasiders' other transfer saga, Derby County are confident that a third bid will succeed in prising Shaun Barker from Bloomfield Road.

Pool's Championship rivals have failed with offers of £400,000 and £500,000 for the 26-year-old defender, with chairman Karl Oyston believed to be holding out for at least £700,000.

Rams boss Nigel Clough confirmed: "He remains one of our top targets and we are pursuing it at the moment. Centre-half is not an easy position to fill."

Nottingham Forest are also thought to have tabled a bid for Barker, who joined Pool three seasons ago from Rotherham and has a year remaining on his contract.

Holloway has praised Barker's attitude in training but sounds resigned to losing him.

How can we be talking about a poxy £700,000 bid, lets keep Reggie as I dont believe we will get CA, so that will leave us well down on strength if Barkers goes. £1.5 million maybe. But we need to strengthen

Centre half is not an easy position to fill so why sell the best one we've got. Why should SB think he is better off at Derby. I despair.

He would be better of at Derby as he would probably be getting paid twice as much! Thats not even to mention the facilities he would be surrounded by or the fact he would be nearer his family!

As for selling him.... no one has said we are selling him. We have set a price. Whether it be 500k, 700k or 1.5m it really doesn't matter. Ollie and KO have set a price that they believe they can work with to obtain a suitable replacement (plus extra). So with them we must trust and not moan about this or speculate anymore.

Also again with Charlie Adam... the above is not new news! Wait until the lad has made his mind up before we start moaning what we should do with him.... he wants to play for Rangers, thats simple and I respect him for that. CA has been nothing but honest and truthful. I feel sorry for him if he doesn't end up at Rangers. Ollie will have other irons in the fire.

That is why Barnsley have turned down a 3m bid for their CH.
So why should we accept a derisory 700k?

Was talking to IH last night and he isn't expecting CA to come down for talks until Friday at the earliest and to be honest he didn't sound that confident he would turn up then. Let's hope he does!

He also doesn't seem to rate DJ anywhere nearly as highly as a lot of us pool fans. Said he was dissapointed with him at LCFC.

He mentioned that he wants to get some experienced players into the squad as the average age is below what he would like at present.

Ollie was at Fylde RFUC checking out the facilities with a view to using them for some training sessions, he sounded well up for his new challenge with the pool though and you can't help but get a good posotive vibe from the guy.

Thanks for the post. It makes a refreshing change to read some facts for once. I hope Ollie is wrong about Charlie Adam. I hope he does turn up ! And I can understand Ollies feelings about DJ Campbell. Out of the two I would want Charlie Adam to sign. I think we can build a team around this lad. We will have to look elsewhere for a striker I think because wages were always going to be a stumbling block with DJ.

Taking into account the current market for English players, 700k is a joke. End of

FY5 Lee.......Not being funny, but facts aren't what you got, it was the words of someone posting on a message board. It amazes me how everyone believes people so easily

Agree with Algarve Seasider that £700,000 is a joke !! If Wellens is worth £1.2 million, then surely Shaun is worth at least that. (younger, fitter, better team player) All credit to Shaun for getting on with the job in hand and not making demands (even if he wants away). Why do we have to be a selling club? We should just tell these clubs that our players are on contract and will not be sold until they are released.
