Blackpool Scorpions RL 60 Roose Pioneers 12
Scorpions new player/coach Steve Woodburn made a great start, recording their third win of the North West Counties League campaign in emphatic style.
The sides traded early tries as the Barrow visitors scored first, only for Phil Gamble to draw level with a try in the corner.
Neither try was converted, and Woodburn put Scorpions ahead for the first try when he finished a slick passing move.
Roose levelled the scores again at 8-8 after Scorpions fumbled a kick, but then the home side gained control.
The forwards were dominant as Marc and Gareth Skelton kept them going forward.
Strong runs by Thomas Rowley and Phillip Mitchell resulted in Gamble going over for his second try.
Paul Adkin scored next and Luke Jardine landed the first goal of the game to give his side breathing space at 18-8.
Roose responded with a strong series of attacks, only for centre Danny Barr to intercept near and go the full length for a converted try.
Captain Anthony Green and Paul Ogden kept Scorpions on the front foot, allowing Gamble to complete his hat-trick, as Scorps led 30-8 at half-time.
Scorpions never loosened their grip in the second half, scoring five more tries which included a fourth for Gamble and a second for coach Woodburn, Barr and Adkin.
Skelton scored the other as Jardine succeeded with all the second-half conversions to take his tally to eight.
This victory means there are now three teams below Scorpions in the first division, though they will be hard-pressed to climb any higher as eight points separate them and Haydock, who have played two fewer games.
