Wolves woe for Wes
FLEETWOOD'S Wes Newton crashed out of the PartyPoker.com Grand Slam of Darts with a 5-0 defeat by Terry Jenkins last night.
It was a bitter blow for Newton, who had battled to the brink of qualification for the knockout stages with victories over Colin Lloyd and Darin Young.
But last night's Wolverhampton whitewash, allied to Young's win over Lloyd, dropped Newton to third place in group F, from which Jenkins and Young progress to the last 16.
The merciless Jenkins topped the group after averaging 98.88 and restricting Newton to just two darts at a double during the whole contest.
Newton was left hoping for a favour from Lloyd in the next match but he lost 5-2 to Young.
Newton admitted: "It's annoying and very frustrating because I'm playing really well in practice but not taking it up on stage."
In tomorrow's second round ties, Jenkins faces Robert Thornton and Young meets Raymond van Barneveld.
