FLEETWOOD’S Wes Newton had an unhappy weekend in darts’ Players Championship in Crawley, though a fellow North-West player fared far better.
St Helens thrower Dave Chisnall won both competitionsw at the K2 Centre, following his 6-2 defeat of Ian White in Saturday’s final by beating Justin Pike 6-4 in Sunday’s decider.
But Professional Darts Corporation world No.6 Newton struggled to make an impact, winning just one match over the weekend.
Newton received a first-round bye in both events, but was edged out 6-3 by Brendan Dolan in the second round on Sunday, having lost 6-5 to Jelle Klaasen in round three the previous day. Newton’s sole victory was a 6-5 thriller against Kevin McDine.
Blackpool’s Ronnie fared better on Saturday, reaching the quarter-finals only to fall 6-4 to runner-up White. Paddy Meaney beat him 6-5 in Sunday’s second round.
