THE slings and arrows of being a Fleetwood fan...

Ask Wes Newton, now ranked No.8 darts player in the world.

If Fleetwood make it to the play-off decider at Eastlands on May 21, Newton wants to be there, but he is being torn in two directions.

“I have a darts tournament in Crawley the day of the play-off final – obviously, Fleetwood have to get there first, but there is a conflict in what I am going to do.

“Obviously, it would be the biggest game ever for Fleetwood and I wouldn’t want to miss that, but I don’t like missing darts tournaments either.

“I know what Phil Taylor would say: ‘Darts, darts, darts – earn your money.

“But he doesn’t know much about football being a Port Vale fan!”

Newton has been a lifelong supporter of his home-town club.

“I used to come here as a young lad, and looking at this stadium now and how it used to be it’s fantastic, awesome.

“They have come a long way in the last few years.

“I can’t wait for tonight’s match – there is buzz about the whole town.

“If Fleetwood could get into the Football League the feeling would be impossible to describe.

“It would be immense for the town and bring the whole community together.”
