FLEETWOOD darts ace Wes Newton was entering the Speedy Services UK Open today at Bolton at the third round stage.

It is the competition in which amateur and professional players line-up alongside each other to compete for a £40,000 first prize.

Newton was spared coming in until the third-round stage because of his number two ranking in the UK Open Order Of Merit.

The final is on Sunday in a tournament in which James Wade is bidding to win it for the third year in a row.
