Town double act so single-minded
GOOD teamwork on and off the field were the key to Fleetwood Town ending their season on a high with a 3-1 win at Droylsden on Saturday.
Manager Micky Mellon wanted assistant Steve Macauley to enjoy a share of the limelight by conducting the post-match interviews, and his no.2 revealed how the pair of them drew up the battleplan which led to a Mike Wilde hat-trick and a commendable eighth-placed finish in Town's first Blue Square North season.
Macaulay explained: "Me and the gaffer went to watch Droylsden in midweek (at Stalybridge). We saw how they played and our players negated them quite well.
"They took on board what they were told and every department delivered. The gaffer and I were never just going to go there to see the season out.
"We wanted to end the season on a high and we certainly did. The performance summed up the season and the lads have done themselves proud.
"You remember the things that happen at the beginning and end of the season and that will be in the players' minds going into the close season."
