Torquay confident of cup upset

TORQUAY United boss Paul Buckle believes his non-league club have a chance of sending Blackpool crashing out of the FA Cup.

The Gulls stretched their unbeaten run to 17 games by dispatching Oxford United 2-0 at the weekend to set up a third round home tie with the Seasiders.

Buckle thinks his side - third top in the Blue Square Premier and aiming to get back in the Football League - have a good chance of causing an upset and would like the game screened on TV.

"We keep hoping for home draws and I'm delighted we've got another one," said Buckle, a former Torquay player.

"I think that, especially if the fans turn up and get behind us, it will be a hell of a day – and we'll have a chance.

"Being selfish, most people's fingers were crossed for a Premier League club.

"But I think TV may well be interested in us against Blackpool.

"There aren't that many great draws and they might think there could be an upset."

The two sides have met twice before in the FA Cup with Pool emerging victorious on both occasions. They beat Torquay 1-0 at the third round stage in 1990 and won 3-1 against the Gulls in the second round in 2002.
