Senior's men send his old pals packing
FRECKLETON manager Mark Senior is making tracks to outsmart his former club Blackpool Rovers in the West Lancashire League.
Senior, who swapped camps in the summer after Rovers were pipped by Garstang for the title, saw his new club finally leapfrog his previous one into second place in the premier division.
While Rovers were dropping two crucial home points, the villagers stretched their unbeaten run to four games by adding to Burnley United's woes at the bottom of the table.
Tom Watson struck in each half – the second a penalty – to seal a 2-0 win for Freckleton and leave their hosts marooned with only one point from eight games.
Last season's WLL runners-up Rovers, trying to pick themselves up after a Lancashire Amateur Shield exit a week earlier, had to settle for a goalless draw in a dour affair at School Road against lowly Stoneclough. They do have games in hand on Senior's side.
Poulton Town went down 2-1 in a mid-table match at Fulwood Amateurs, who regained the lead in the second half after Nick Pugh brought the visitors level by half-time.
Garstang, due to play at Coppull United, were among the victims of waterlogging.
Norcross and Warbreck produced a turn-up in division one by toppling leaders Tempest United, whose 3-1 defeat saw them slip to second place.
Norcross took a firm grip once their Bolton hosts had a man sent off for a dangerous tackle after 15 minutes.
They rode their luck when Tempest hit the post with a penalty at 1-0 and capitalised by sweeping straight up for Steve Newton to grab his second.
Lee Chettle responded to Tempest's reply by sealing the points in the closing minutes.
Wyre Villa were off at Croston Sports. So too were Lytham Town in division two at Burnley Belvedere and Thornton Cleveleys at Todmorden Borough.
In the reserve division one, leaders Poulton were the only winners among the Fylde's five teams. They whipped visitors BAC/EE/Springfields 5-0 with goals from Graham McNicholas (2), Ben Shaw, Robbie Walsh and Danny Morris.
All the others lost at home – Freckleton (Liam Bradshaw) to Tempest United 4-1, Garstang 4-0 to Charnock Richard, Norcross 6-0 to Barnoldswick Town and Thornton Cleveleys 1-0 to Fulwood Amateurs.
In reserve division two, Wyre's 2-1 defeat meant visitors Bolton County climbed off the bottom. Ashley Murphy scored.
