Seasiders missed out on United starlet

SIMON Grayson has a new tactic – ring rival bosses until they get so cheesed off they give him a player just to stop him calling again.

"That's my intention anyway," said Grayson, who revealed that he almost signed Manchester United frontman Fraizer Campbell last week, only to see the 20-year-old head to Hull instead.

The Jury: Time to give Welsh a start

And as the youngster scored twice on his debut in Hull's 3-0 win over Barnsley last night, it rather backs up Grayson's judgment.

Added Grayson: "The list of who I have spoken to is endless. All the other managers are good. Sir Alex Ferguson returned my call within an hour.

"One of the main problems is that most clubs are after the same players.

"I just hope that if I keep asking then a manager might get fed up of me being on the phone and will eventually give in and let me have one or two.

"That's what I'll keep doing. Keep annoying them and hope that eventually they'll get so narked they'll give in."

Grayson was even trying to get a player during a bash in Manchester on Sunday, when he picked up a management award from the Sports Writers Guild.

"We were meant to be having a dinner and enjoying the night but I spent half my time talking to managers and agents about players," he said.

"But again I had no joy. It makes me even more determined to get someone in but it is frustrating because some players are not available and the ones that are available seem to want to stay where they are.

"I don't know why some players don't want to come and play football. But we get on with it and keep chipping away and by doing that I hope we will eventually get one or two players in."
