School of the week: Boundary Primary School
BLACKPOOL'S Boundary Primary School hopes that an early kick-off will give their sporting pupils a head-start in school tournaments.
The Dinmore Road school's pupils enjoy participating in competitions at Year 5 and 6 levels – but this year football has been introduced for Years 2, 3 and 4, with UEFA-qualified coaches, in the hope that children will be bitten by the soccer bug early and progress to the school teams.
Football is among many sports coached at after-school clubs at Boundary. Other sessions are dedicated to athletics, badminton, cricket, High 5 netball and table tennis.
Each pupil also receives two hours' curriculum PE/games during the week at the school, which has successfully attained Healthy School status.
PE teacher Stephen Twist told AllStars: "Giving sport a higher profile and a higher priority in school all helps towards having healthy pupils ... and will hopefully result in more success in school competitions."
There may be no school tournaments for footballers below Year 5 but at Boundary the young players do have competitions among themselves and are helped in joining local clubs.
