Rugby captain's emotional return to lead Blackpool revival

Chris Parlour has made an emotional return to Blackpool Rugby Union Club in a bid to help boost their fortunes.

Chris will captain the team in 2017-18 and is one of 15 new recruits for the Halbro North West division five north campaign, which begins with a home derby against Fleetwood 3 at Mossom Lane on Saturday week.

He left for Ormskirk RUFC six years ago but has rejoined a club to which he has such a strong attachment – Chris is the son of the late Ed Parlour, who coached the team.

Adam Glover and Jamie Robertson have also returned to Blackpool from Ormskirk and Chris said: “Blackpool is a club close to my heart and I have many great memories here with my dad.

“That is part of the reason I am back– to try to help restore the club that was such an important part of our lives for so long back to where it belongs.”

Blackpool also have a new chairman in Sean O’Brien, while George Hunt returns as director of rugby.

Parlour added: “Sean is Blackpool Rugby Club through and through. I doubt anybody loves the club more, so if anyone can direct us on to the right path it is him.

“Clearly the last couple of seasons have been difficult and much credit is owed to those who have stuck by the club and left a platform for us to build on this season.”

A series of pre-season friendly are being staged (action from the match against Bolton is pictured left) ahead of the kick-off against Fleetwood on September 3, when the club will also host a family barbecue

New players are still welcome to training at the club on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm.
