PREDATORY rugby clubs are casting an envious eye on Fylde RFC’s array of talent.
Their success in National League One on a relative shoestring has not gone un-noticed and raiders are hovering over the Woodlands. Interest has been shown in Fylde players from both codes of rugby.
At least three of those who produced such outstanding rugby to beat Macclesfield on Saturday have grabbed the attention of Championship and Premiership clubs, with Super League clubs on the alert too.
One of the most obvious targets is winger Oli Brennand, who showed his potential with a hat-trick last weekend
Coach Mark Nelson is aware of the growing interest and said: “My job is not only to strengthen the existing side but to try to keep it together, with other clubs showing such interest.
“It is a mark of how successful we have been this season. Fylde is run on the lines of a Championship or Premiership club but without their financial resources.”
Flanker Steve McGinnis is unavailable for Saturday’s trip to Coventry.
