FYLDE RFC have boosted their squad in preparation for life in National Division One next season by signing Macclesfield skipper Evan Stewart.
The flanker scored 42 tries for Macclesfield in 56 appearances since joining the club in 2009-10 from Loughborough.
A former England Students international, Stewart said: “I am very much looking forward to joining Fylde. The club’s results this year have been brilliant and I hope I can add to that success next season.
“The decision to leave Macclesfield where I have made a number of fantastic friends and had two great seasons was made easier by knowing I am joining two former Loughborough team mates and friends in Steve McGinnis and Steve Collins.
“The club’s style of play will be a new challenge for me but one I am very much looking forward to.
“The opportunity to work with coaches such as Mark Nelson and Brian Ashton is fantastic and one I could not pass up.
“I have done a lot of coaching with Brian over the last couple of years and we both agree on how we feel rugby should be played.
“This style of play is obviously reflected in how Mark has lead the team to winning promotion this year.
“I have just accepted a teaching job at Lancaster Royal Grammar and am looking forward to developing links between the school and the club.
Fylde’s technical director Brian Ashton said: “I’m delighted he has joined the club.
“He’s a bright player and a good footballer. He should fit into the development of our game wel.l”
Head coach Mark Nelson said: “Evan is a great addition to our backrow, complementing our other players and giving us lots of options in the back five of the pack.
“He’s played a full season in National One with Macclesfield and that experience will be invaluable in our pre-season preparations.”
