FYLDE RFC were in red-hot form on the day they were presented with the National Two North champions’ trophy – but they made sure their coach kept cool.
Mischievous second row Paul Arnold poured an ice bucket over Mark Nelson’s head as the celebrations began following the 76-14 thumping of Hull Ionians.
After the last of their 30 league games, coach Nelson said: “It does not seem like a slog. We have enjoyed it.
“To be crowned champions at home, scoring over 70 points in glorious sunshine with our backs running riot – what better way is there to check out of this league?
“There were some classic tries and everyone has been royally entertained. I told the players they will remember this title throughout their careers.”
