FYLDE RU, newly-crowned champions of National League Two North have already begun their recruiting campaign for life after promotion - they have signed centre Chris Briers, formerly with Sale, Orrell, Sedgley Park and Doncaster.
He is the brother of Stephen Briers, also a centre, who is already on Fylde’s books.
The new arrival has also earned representative honours for Lancashire and England Counties.
First team manager John Greenwood said: “We’re delighted that we’ve pulled off this massive coup by bringing such a high quality player to the Woodlands.
“Chris has played more than 150 matches over six seasons in the Championship (level 2) and has a fine record.
“Given its early timing, this demonstrates that we mean business in the higher division.”
Chris Briers said: “I’m really glad to be joining Fylde - there are a number of reasons that have persuaded me to make the move.
“I’m a teacher and have decided to give up full-time rugby.
“Playing at Doncaster has been a great experience and I leave with a lot of happy memories.
“I’m delighted at the prospect of working with coaches Mark Nelson, who I know very well from my Lancashire and Orrell days, and Brian Ashton.
“I’ve seen the style of open, running rugby that Fylde have played this season and that is an exciting prospect. “
