FYLDE rugby club have boosted their ranks in the run-up to the season in National League One by signing Lancashire captain Alex Loney.

He has been brought in to bolster the front row as Fylde look to consolidate in the new division.

Loney has played for most of his career at hooker, but Fylde plan to use him as tight-head prop.

He is a former Kirkham Grammar School product and as well as playing for Fylde he will undertake commercial duties at the Woodlands as part of the deal.

The 26-year-old captained Lancashire as they retained the County Championship title at Twickenham in the spring, playing for a side coached by Fylde’s Mark Nelson, who is thrilled to have got Loney on board.

Fylde are convinced that his experience as a full-time player will be a big advantage to the club.

Loney had a spell at Leicester Tigers academy before joining Nottingham and later switching to Rotherham.

The blond powerhouse played for the England 18 and 19 group.
