Grimes is a one-time junior with Preston Grasshoppers who is now coming back to the area after his spell in the North East.

He said: "I was at Hoppers for all my junior rugby and played representative age grade level for Lancashire. I went to university at Northumbria where I played for the first team.

"I've had four very enjoyable seasons at Blaydon despite missing a lot of the 2014-15 season due to injury.

"I'm now moving back to Lancashire and am really looking forward to joining Fylde, who play an exciting brand of rugby, and facing new challenges ahead."

Fylde head Warren Spragg said: "We're very excited about Tom joining the squad for next season. He's only 24 but is very experienced at National One level as part of a very tight Blaydon squad.

"He has just the right kind of determined attitude to be able to fit into our plans and is very versatile."
