Fylde rugby club have signed prop forward Colin Phillips on loan from Championship club Doncaster Knights and he is set to make his debut against Rosslyn Park in the top of the table clash at the Woodlands on Saturday.
Fylde coach Mark Nelson has secured the signing of the front rower after regular prop Dan Birchall suffered an injured ankle in the 47-0 win at Macclesfield on Saturday, which maintained Fylde’s 100 per cent start to the season,
Phillips has an excellent rugby pedigree,
He grew up in Scotland and was a member of Edinburgh Rugby’s elite development academy and represented Scotland under-20s in two Junior World Cups and two Junior Six Nations tournaments.
He played at Stewarts Melville College and has had a spell at Blackrock College before joining the Knights in summer 2013. He spent a period on loan last season at Hull RUFC.
Nelson said the signing was on a week-by-week basis.
He added: “With the cancellation of the Fylde Hawks second team fixture last Saturday and work commitments the previous week, there has not been sufficient pitch time to fully prepare our squad props for the challenge that Rosslyn Park will present.
“Therefore, I am very grateful to Clive Griffiths for agreeing to lend Colin to us in the short term.
“Colin has real pedigree and I know that the Knights have high hopes for him this season.
“The player needs game time so the deal suits all three parties.
“In the meantime we will be working very hard with (props) Jonny Wild and Ben Corless in particular.”
