Fylde rugby club player-coach Paul Arnold has been banned for two weeks after being cited by National League One rivals Coventry.

The Midland team decided to report Arnold after an act of retaliation by the Fylde man in a match last month.

Arnold retaliated physically after believing he had been elbowed by a Coventry opponent.

The Fylde player-coach accepted that he had acted rashly and apologised profusely to Coventry, pointing out that it was out of character and that he had never been sent off in a 400-match career.

Arnold missed the defeat at Blaydon on Saturday as he was banned by the club internally pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing.

He misses Saturday’s clash at the Woodlands with Ampthill and District, but is available after that.
