FYLDE RU are seeking a solution to their back row dilemma, with Steve McGinnis ruled out until Christmas.
McGinnnis had to be admitted to hospital with appendictis and his costly absence is among the mounting problems for the National League One table-toppers in the run-up to Saturday’s trip to Blaydon.
Another back rower, Evan Stewart, will be out for several weeks after suffering an ankle injury in last weekend’s win over Sedgley Park, while Mark Stephenson will be absent for a similar spell, again with ankle trouble.
With Josh Beaumont returning to university, head coach Mark Nelson has been left with a gaping hole in his squad.
Nelson said: “Stewart’s ankle is not broken but he will be out for a minimum of two to three weeks, and Stephenson will be out for another three or four.
“It is a specialist position, where you can’t mix and match like you can with some places in the team.
“We have quality players like Cameron Thompson and Grant Ferguson to come in, with John Wells to come in on the bench, but we could also be looking to play Johnny Roddam in the back row and he is a specialist hooker.”
Fylde have renewed their interest of Lancashire forward Seb Moss, formerly of Manchester, following preliminary talks earlier in the season.
