Rowing champ doesn't make a splash

MARK Tinkler can rightly be described as sport's Mr Endurance. He gave his all to win a gruelling, sinew-straining class at the British Indoor Rowing Championship in Birmingham.

The 26-year-old from Freckleton clocked six minutes, 34.4 seconds without budging an inch!

But the machine showed he has 'completed' the 2000-metre distance in the quickest time – which is more than can be said for the hapless competitor next to him.

He was so exhausted by his endeavours that he flaked out and had to be revived with the help of St John Ambulance personnel!

Tinkler was so engrossed on his own trial of strength that he carried on regardless.

Not only did Mark last the distance, he had the best time in the Open LWT race held at the championship venue.

It was a remarkable effort by Tinkler, who was competing in his first championship and only took up indoor rowing in earnest in February this year.
