Blackpool Men’s up and down season in North West three north continued with a 3-1 defeat at Carlisle.
A depleted Blackpool side were under the cosh in the early stages and Carlisle deservedly took the lead. Blackpool soon struck back as Steve Whitley converted Nathan Woodman’s cross at full stretch at the far post.
Carlisle pressed again and had a goal disallowed before regaining the lead from a penalty corner as Whitley received a controversial green card. The third goal soon followed as Blackpool failed to defend a set-piece, completing the scoring before half-time.
Blackpool keeper Nick Rainbow made a series of excellent saves in the second half, when his side enjoyed long periods of possession.
Richard Blacow moved upfield to add firepower and went closest when his shot smashed into an upright, while Simon Thomas shot just over. But Carlisle deserved their victory, and although Blackpool remain fifth they are now nine points behind the second-placed team.
