Pool complete deal for Italian midfielder

TRANSFER day activity at Bloomfield Road has stepped up a notch with the arrival of Italian midfielder Francesco Carratta.

The 21-year-old has signed from Royal Antwerp until the end of the season on a free transfer.

He has been recommended by one of Steve Thompson's contacts and after watching several DVDs of the player in action, as well as phoning more scouts, Pool have decided to add him to their squad.

"I'm delighted to make this move because for me it is a big step for me to come to England," he said.

"I couldn't refuse a chance like this and I want to do my best for the team.

"For every player it is a dream to come and play in England, especially at a level like this - it's an offer you only get once.

"I'm going to prove myself in training, I'm going to work hard, I'm going to do extra work and now it is up to me to take this chance and show the team, the manager and everybody in Blackpool that I'm worthy."

Carratta progressed through the youth ranks at Anderlecht and PSV before moving from Sint-Truiden VV to Antwerp permanently after a loan spell in the summer.

He arrived in Blackpool this morning when he trained with his new team-mates for the first time.

Meanwhile Ian Harte has departed the Seasiders after being dropped from the starting 11 at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Pool have allowed Harte to go because the 31-year-old wouldn't have been able to move to another club had he still been contracted to the Seasiders after deadline day passed.

"Ian has done well for us, filling in admirably at a time when we needed him, and we thank him for his efforts," said Thompson.

Adam Hammill has joined Barnsley on loan until the end of the season.

Earlier Alan Gow moved to Norwich.

Pool have missed out on a Scottish striker this morning but are confident of adding a frontman to their squad ahead of the deadline.
