Pool back in race for Gow
ALAN Gow's move to Blackpool could be back on after the dramatic collapse of the striker's transfer to table-topping Wolves.
On the day the Seasiders signed one frontman in Roy O'Donovan and lost out to Oldham in the race for Dean Windass, Gow failed a medical and was sent back to Rangers by Wolves boss Mick McCarthy.
But Rangers still want rid of the striker and that opens the door for the Seasiders to move back in for a player they were desperate to recruit just a week ago.
Seasiders secretary Matt Williams said: "As soon as we saw the news about Alan we spoke to Rangers and Alan's representatives and asked them for an update. He has gone back to Rangers and will spend the weekend considering his options.
"We will continue to monitor the situation. He is a player Tony Parkes rates highly and wants."
It all hinges on whether McCarthy decides to complete the signing once Gow's medical problem, which has been described as "minor", is resolved.
The Wolves boss said: "We'd agreed everything but something showed up.
It's nothing serious – it is something bio-mechanical but it's something for Alan and Rangers to sort out, not us."
Pool had agreed a 200,000 fee with Rangers for the 26-year-old Scot but McCarthy topped their bid.
Meanwhile, Blackpool have confirmed that they did attempt to sign veteran Hull striker Windass.
Oldham were yet to confirm the deal last night but Pool say he has opted for the League One club for purely geographical reasons – Windass' young family is based in Ilkley.
Pool can console themselves with the knowledge that the attacking situation at Bloomfield Road is looking a whole lot healthier after the acquisitions of two frontmen and a winger in the last frantic 48 hours.
Sunderland striker Roy O'Donovan yesterday joined on loan until the end of the season, following Leicester's DJ Campbell and Middlesbrough winger Graeme Owens to Bloomfield Road.
O'Donovan was the biggest thing in Irish football two years ago – top scorer for Cork City by some distance.
Fulham thought they had wrapped up a 750,000 deal to sign the 23-year-old in the summer of 2007 but the Black Cats – who were then managed by O'Donovan's boyhood hero Roy Keane – pipped them.
Despite starting two matches and making 19 Premier League and Cup appearances from the bench, O'Donovan struggled to make an impression in his first year in England.
This season he has been on loan at Dundee United but scored only once in 13 appearances and has spent much of his time out of the team.
He was recalled by Sunderland over Christmas but new boss Ricky Sbragia now hopes O'Donovan will rebuild his confidence by scoring goals for the Seasiders.
A delighted Parkes said: "I'm really pleased we have got him and suddenly our squad is looking much healthier and much stronger.
