Peach power
Daryl Peach is celebrating a win in his hometown... 15 years after lifting his first 9 Ball title, the European Pool Masters at Blackpool's Winter Gardens.
The 38-year-old pocketed GB9's Pro Cup and 1,000 first prize at the Barcelo Hotel (Imperial) with a comfortable 9-4 final win over Ipswich's Craig Osbourne.
Peach is on a roll – this win comes on the back of his Italian Eurotour win.
"I played well throughtout the tournament," said current World 9 Ball Champion Peach. "It's always nice to win but it's a great feeling when it's in your home town."
"The GB tour is so strong now it is regarded as one of the hardest tours in the world, so it is a real achievement to win a tour event."
Meanwhile, newly crowned World 8 Ball Champion Karl Boyes, who is also from Blackpool, seemed jaded from his efforts in the UAE. He lost to Matt Ford 9-7 in the Last 16.
Raj 'The Hitman' Hundall prevented Boyes, 27, from defended the main event, the Paul Medati Trophy. The former World Pool Masters Champion won their quarter-final encounter.
Boyes said: "I'm disappointed not to retain it, especially as it was in memory of Paul.
"I played a couple of loose safety shots which cost me the match." Peach made a Last 16 exit to James Kay in the Paul Medati Trophy, which had 144 runners. Kay from Worsely went on to lose in the final to Bourne's Mark Gray 11-6.
The pair of Blackpool hotshots head further afield for their next tournament stop – the World Pool Masters in Las Vegas.
