BRITISH cycling superstars Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish could be racing head-to-head on Blackpool Promenade next month.
It has been confirmed that Cavendish will be joining fellow Team Sky member Wiggin in this year’s Tour of Britain race, which comes to the Fylde coast on September 12.
World road race champion Cavendish won two stages and was th top sprinter at this year’s Tour de France, in which Chorley-based Wiggins was the overall winner before going on to time trial glory at the London Oympics.
The Tour of Britain begins this year in Ipswich on September 9 and makes its regular visit to Blackpool on day four. The North-West stage, which ends at the resort, follows a new route this year from Carlisle.
Blackpool missed out last year because the North West stage was cancelled due to high winds. But racer Cavendish delighted fans by riding into town anyway to honour commitments he had made.
