Ollie not afraid to ask for cash

IAN Holloway will meet Seasiders president Valery Belokon on Monday to discuss plans for the forthcoming campaign ... and the new manager won't be frightened to ask for more cash.

Holloway is jetting to Latvia and will be accompanied by club chairman Karl Oyston.

"If I can convince Mr Belokon we are moving forward and we need his help, then great but we'll wait and see what he thinks," said Holloway.

One of the main talking points will be the pursuit of Scottish midfielder Charlie Adam and how far the Seasiders are prepared to go to get their man.

Pool certainly haven't given up in their efforts to bring the 23-year-old to Bloomfield Road.

They remain in negotiations with Rangers, and are optimistic a deal can be done, despite interest from Championship rivals Reading, Barnsley and Preston.

"I don't think his wages will be a problem, but it all boils down to whether the chairman can come to an agreement with Rangers,"Holloway said.

"I've seen a couple of DVDs and he looks a fantastic player. He is very calm and calculated on the ball, so we will be trying to come to an agreement for his services.

"He's very good attacking the opposition with the ball at his feet, so he would be a great addition."

Barnsley have had a 250,000 bid for Adam turned down and Pool would probably need to pay 500,000 to have any chance of completing a deal, which would make Adam the club's record signing by some distance.

It still seems unlikely that Adam will become a Blackpool player but one thing that is in the Seasiders' favour is their good relationship with the Scottish champions.

They may be able to persuade Rangers to cut their asking price, and the fact that Holloway so obviously wants the player should also help.

He will make his feelings known to the chairman, who won't want to upset his new manager so soon after hiring him.

On the downside, paying a big fee for Adam would eat up almost all of the manager's summer spending budget in one go.

That's where Belokon could come in, if he agrees to pump extra money into Holloway's transfer kitty.
